Error: "Please upgrade your plan to have a custom domain"

You may see this error when trying to add a custom domain if you are still on a development plan. In order to add a custom domain you need to upgrade your plan to a production plan. 

In short, before you begin, you need:

• A project that’s ready to go live
• A domain with access to its settings with the registrar
• A registrar that allows CNAME records or one of the alternatives on apex domains
• Optional: The CLI installed locally
• If you are on a development plan, you need to upgrade your tier to a production plan.

To upgrade your plan tier, you must be an organization owner or have the manage plans permission.

In the console, you need to:

1. On the tile of the project you want to upgrade, click on the settings icon located at the top right of your console page (below your profile name). 
2. Click Edit plan.
3. Change the plan to at least Essential Plan.
4. Check the change to the monthly cost.
5. Click Save.
